We’re moving closer and closer to spring, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’m already dreaming of spending long afternoons on the high line, having boozy popsicles at a rooftop bar, and walking through blooming botanical gardens in a dress and wedge sandals. Still, I know that once spring is here there will be months of warm weather to come, so I’m savoring the cold weather and winter fashion while I still can. I’ve found that along with a warm faux fur coat, another great method of staying snug and stylish is layering a few light pieces. Yes, I realize that layering is nothing new to most people, but it sure is for a Floridian. Where I’m from, the only layering we do is layering sunscreen on several times a day, because we live in an eternal summer, or what we call hell. Both of these denim pieces are vintage, from mom. You’ll find me wearing the light wash denim jacket through all four seasons because of how versatile it is. On top of a black long-sleeve tee, with black denim and booties for fall? Done. Thrown on over a floral dress with combat boots, or colorful heels for spring and summer? Perfect. Underneath a bigger denim coat, lined with faux fur, on an all-black winter ensemble? Absolutely. Funny, I used to be terrified of the denim on denim trend, but this look has me rethinking the supposed fashion faux pas. It might take me a while, and by a while I mean a millenium or maybe even longer, to get into the two-toned Canadian tuxedo look, but perhaps in due time I will-
or not. Yeah, probably not.
