Being an adult with a career is difficult regardless, but being one who is balancing two full-time careers in one of the most competitive cities on earth can be about twice as challenging. Sometimes, I question whether doing more than I have to is worth it. But, there is something in the air here that makes people want to be more, strive to accomplish more, work harder to be better. Each avenue is drenched in inspiration and motivation. I love that about New York. Nobody ever bettered themselves through staying still. People become great at what they do through challenging themselves, which is part of the reason that New Yorkers work so hard. We all want to be someone- and being someone here comes at a price. Could I use a few more hours of sleep? Yes. Would I love more time to watch BuzzFeed: Unsolved and The Carrie Diaries? Of course. But, I wouldn’t change a single thing, even if I could.
Of course, working from home and at the office, from the wee hours of morning until late at night also allows me to splurge on some things, which is an added bonus. I love being able to go to brunch, or meet friends for guac and margaritas, or get that new pair of sneakers I’ve been dying to get without worrying that my card is going to get declined. These boots, however, are not a splurge as I scored them on sale at Steve Madden for under $40. Talk about a steal- I mean, at that point I couldn’t afford not to buy them. The taupe suede is super wearable, especially during spring when even I’m attempting to incorporate colors other than black and denim. Surprisingly, I found them to be somewhat comfortable to walk around in. That is, unless you manage to fall down the stairs while wearing them like I did, and end up bruising both shins and your spine, scraping your knee, and twisting your wrist. But, I don’t attribute that to the shoes- it isn’t their fault that I missed a step because I was that excited about going to Cha Cha Matcha.
